HOSPERSA CRITICISE GAUTENG HEALTH FOR BANK OF LISBON BUILDING FIRE

Hospersa has critised the Gauteng Department of Health (DoH) for the fire that claimed the lives of three fire fighters at Bank of Lisbon Building yesterday. The Union has consistently complained about the building which houses the Gauteng DoH and the Gauteng Department of Human Settlement. Hospersa has demanded that all government officials that ignored the warning signs regarding the poor safety conditions of the building to be held accountable and all staff members to be relocated to a safer building.

HOSPERSA BEMOANS MINISTER’S RESPONSE TO PUBLIC HEALTH CRISIS

Hospersa is disappointed by the response given by the Minister of Health, Dr Aaron Motsoaledi, regarding the state of public health in the country. The Department of Health (DoH) has been under heavy criticism since the beginning of the year with the Health Ombudsman stating that it is collapsing. However, the Minister has dismissed these claims and maintains that his department is afloat. The Union agrees with the Health Ombudman’s claims and has reiterated calls for a national health indaba in order to find solutions that will resuscitate the collapsing department.

HOSPERSA WELCOMES SUPRA EXIT… FINALLY

Hospersa has welcomed the resignation of North West (NW) Premier, Supra Mahumapelo following endless calls for his resignation. The Union reiterates its request to the political heads to appoint a credible replacement that will prioritise the resuscitation of the health care service in the NW Province which has all but collapsed under Mahumapelo’s leadership. Hospersa also aims to seek legal advice regarding the North West Department of Health’s failure to provide a safe working environment for its members during the unrest where its members are barred from resuming their duties in a number of hospitals and clinics that remain closed.
