HOSPERSA REITERATES CALLS FOR NATIONAL GENDER BASED VIOLENCE ACTION PLAN

Hospersa has called on Government to expedite finalising the National Strategic Plan (NSP) on Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and femicide. This call comes after GBV was once again in the spotlight when a social media video of a popular South African musician being assaulted, allegedly by her boyfriend, went viral yesterday. The Union also demands strong action against perpetrators of GBV and an improvement in the public health care system in dealing with cases of assault to ensure victims receive adequote assistance.

HOSPERSA JOINS HANDS WITH THE NATIONAL INSTITUTE FOR OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH

Hospersa has signed a memorandum of agreement with the National Institute for Occupational Health (NIOH) of the National Health Laboratory Service (NHLS). The agreement paves a way for collaborative efforts for both parties to address various Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) challenges experienced by health workers in the workplace. By signing this agreement, the NIOH and the Union have pledged to working together on projects that seek to improve and promote OHS for health workers in South Africa.

HOSPERSA CONDEMNS PLANNED RETRENCHMENTS AT NETCARE

Hospersa has critised the NETCARE Group for planned retrenchments at a number of its facilities over the next few weeks. The private healthcare group issued the Union with a notice that it plans to restructure its business operations in its hospital division which would affect hundreds of employees. Hospersa, the largest Trade Union at NETCARE in South Africa, has vowed to use all its legal avenues to block any possible retrenchments put forward by the profit-driven healthcare group.

Hospersa is requesting members of the media to attend the opening day of its National Congress on 27 November 2018 at Saint George Hotel and Conference Centre, Pretoria. The upcoming congress will also mark the Union’s 60 years celebration which will reach its peak when the Union elects new National Office Bearers on the last day of congress.
