Hospersa is concerned by the South African Nursing Council’s statement claiming victory on a recent court case.  The Union refutes these claims and has written to the SANC requesting a retraction.

Responding to the SANC’s media release issued on 3 July 2017, Hospersa has expressed concerns over the claims made by the SANC on Judge J Fabricius’ ruling on 26 June 2017.  The SANC claims that it won the case brought forward by Hospersa.  On the contrary, the court order states that both parties agreed on having the examinations postponed and for the SANC to issue an amended circular by no later than 27 June 2017, communicating the new dates of the examinations.  Hospersa has since written to the SANC to request a correction in the misleading information communicated by the SANC’s media release.

“We refute the claims made by the SANC regarding the 26 June 2017 case on the examination re-write,” said Hospersa General Secretary Noel Desfontaines.  “The order granted was an order by consent of both parties, who settled on the terms thereof. The SANC agreed to postpone the re-writes and Hospersa agreed to not persist with a legal review of the decision to set the exams aside in its entirety,” argued Desfontaines.

“We have written to the SANC to request a correction on its misleading statement sent to the media,” said Desfontaines.  “We believed that the order was a good one as it addressed the varying concerns of all our members, and at the same time keeping the integrity of the examinations intact,” added Desfontaines.

“Hospersa request SANC to investigate claims that the June 28TH rewrite paper was also available to some students before the examination date,” said Desfontaines.

“We will continue to efficiently address our members’ concerns with regards to their experiences with the SANC and look to add a positive contribution in advancing the interest of the nursing profession,” concluded Desfontaines.
