Notice to all Public Service Members: strike action 30 July 2010 (Negotiations)

1.5 months ago

As a result of the mandate received from our members that they have rejected the offer from the employer, a strike ballot was conducted last week which was in favour of HOSPERSA embarking on industrial action.

Notice in terms of section 65 (1) (d) of the Labour Relations Act that our members will be embarking on industrial action with effect from 30 July 2010 has been served on the employer today

The Minister of DPSA has requested a meeting with organised labour for Thursday 29th of July which will be attended by our President.

In light of that meeting, HOSPERSA is of the opinion that, as a responsible trade union, we should give all parties the opportunities to find a solution before embarking on a strike which, as we are all aware, negatively affects our members. However, should the meeting of the 29th not address the demands of our members, we will then start with our industrial action on the 30th July 2010.

An urgent facilitation meeting regarding minimum service levels in essential services during the strike will be held on the 28th July with the employer. A communiqué will be sent to all provincial offices to update members on that meeting.

Our Collective Bargaining Department will be coordinating the logistics involved with the industrial action and the provincial offices will be regularly updated on the progress. Please contact your provincial offices or visit our website for updates and further information. Members are also invited to provide us with their email addresses to receive electronic updates.
