HOSPERSA will embark on Public Sevice strike action (Media Releases)
1.5 months ago
23 Julu 2010. Following the deadlock (unresolved dispute) in the 2010 annual salary negotiations between Labour and the State as employer the trade union HOSPERSA has received a clear mandate from its members to reject the employer’s offer of 6,5% across the board salary increase and the housing allowance increase from R500 per month to R620 per month. HOSPERSA is demanding an 8,6% across the board salary increase and an increase in the housing allowance from R500 to R1000. HOSPERSA has no other choice than notifying the Public Service Coordinating Bargaining Council (PSCBC) of its intention to embark on industrial action. Balloting of members will be completed by midday, today (Friday 23 July) after which the necessary notices will be served on the employer. HOSPERSA, representing health care and other service workers, is very concerned that such an action will seriously hamper service delivery and that it will compromise patient care in the public hospitals. HOSPERSA is still open to negotiations and urge the employer to seriously reconsider Labour’s offer in order to avert a strike in the public sector.
