HOSPERSA ELECTS NEW LEADERSHIP IN THE WESTERN CAPE
28 February 2018

Hospersa in the Western Cape Province elected new Provincial Office Bearers at its Provincial congress on 21 and 22 February 2018. The Union in the province also adopted key resolutions to tackle during the next five years in its efforts of fighting for improved working conditions of its members.

Hospersa in the Western Cape Province held a two day provincial congress last week and elected new Provincial Office Bearers.  The new office bearers will remain in office for a period of five years, carrying the union’s flag in the Western Cape especially in the Union’s fight for improved working conditions of Emergency Medical Service (EMS) personnel.  The province has seen an alarming increase of attack on EMS personnel whereby Hospersa has been at the forefront in the fight for their protection.

The following portfolios were filled as follows:  Gerald Lotriet (Provincial Chairperson), William Philander (Provincial Vice-Chairperson – Structures and Recruitment), Bonita Williams Adams (Provincial Vice-Chairperson – HIV/Aids and Gender), Daniel Aspling (Provincial Vice-Chairperson – Education and Training) and Harold Seas (Provincial Treasurer).  Aside from the elections, key resolutions were adopted by the delegates which were made up of over one hundred (100) shop stewards representing members from various public health and social development institutions in the Western Cape province.

“We congratulate the new leaders elected during the provincial congress,” said Marthenique Marinus, Hospersa Western Cape Provincial Secretary.  “The new leaders will look to take aim at some of the thorny issues faced by our members in the province which includes gross violations of Occupation Health and Safety, shortages of staff as well as maladministration and corruption,” said Marinus.
