Hospersa actively participates in South Africa's National Skills Development Strategy in the following ways:
- Making inputs on various policies that affect training and development.
- Advising members and shop stewards on their rights in terms of skills development, employment equity and other relevant legislation that may improve their training and development.
- Negotiating and encouraging the involvement of shop stewards in their workplace training and employment equity committees.
- Ensuring the best interests of members when their rights in respect of training legislation are violated.
- Mobilising and negotiating fair and safe conditions for members in training programs.
- Encouraging the access of members to training on various aspects of labour legislation, including training on HIV, AIDS and occupational health and safety.
- Contributing towards the accelerated training of scarce skills, e.g. various fields in the health and welfare sectors, by participating in the HWSETA.
